In NSW, You may be able to install one of our Movable Tiny home caravans on your property without local council approval due to the NSW State Legislation (Manufactured Home Estates, Caravan Parks, Camp Grounds and Moveable Dwellings Regulation 2021, in particular, subdivision 3, section 77). Some councils require an application/approval to connect to sewer mains or to connect to septic.
You can view the legislation here.
Outside of NSW, you do not need council approval to park a caravan on your property, although councils can limit the amount of time you can occupy a caravan. This time limit will vary from council to council.
Victoria has recently released their own policy which is the Dependent Person’s Unit.

In WA, the shire of Esperance sees Tiny Homes as an affordable and sustainable way to live and are currently supporting the development of Tiny Homes in their Local Planning Policy.

And remember, if your local council isn’t familiar with the tiny house term, use caravan instead.
